Special Report #1 -- Dragon*Con 2007
We were only mostly dead.
In this stand-alone episode, we cover a few highlights of Dragon*Con. The good (the Dragon Moon Press booth, Dragon*Con TV, the live Geologic Podcast, live Aliens You Will Meet, Mur Lafferty's reading, Beatnik Turtle, costumes galore, and all the between spaces that make up community), the bad (Sigler and Hutch threw the baddest of the bad-ass parties, aka the Podcaster's Playa's Ball), and the ugly (the Hyatt -- 'nuff said). We also toss out a couple of rumors about the future of BSG, the future of Dragon*Con, and our future con commitments.

You're right, I shoulda known how crowded it was gonna be based on the line on Thursday. I know that if we go again, we won't ever stay at the Hyatt again. BTW, Susan, you do realize that the combo of goth chick (he doesn't know goth from rockabilly) plus Free Culture has turned you into the hottest chick in the world for my husband. He luuuuuvs you!
Andrea, your husband has flawless taste -- he snatched you up, didn't he?
And i say we co-opt a smaller con and shape it to our whims. All new media geekery, all the time. Plus bands to dance to, of course. Oh, and steampunk costuming. :)
Ex-cellent show, peeps!
It will be interesting to see how the current sentiment of "perhaps not going back to Dragon*Con" fares over the next couple of months, in terms of people sticking with that concept v. softening and eventually everyone deciding to go again next year.
This time around, my favorite con of the season was clearly Balticon - plenty of our tribesmates in more intimate and manageable surroundings, without the insane crush of humanity and dash or 5 of jerk-ery. The idea of staking out one or two smaller cons, and bending them to our collective wills, has some appeal...
@cmaaarrr!!! Thank you, sir!
i honestly don't know at this point. i can see myself deciding to go because i want to see everybody that i want to see, but i do know that if i go next year, i'm going to need a different approach than i had this year, which might mean avoiding the Hyatt altogether.
And i loved Balticon. As for other cons, i think Trinoc*Con seems ripe for a kick-ass New Media track.
Hi Susanz Hi Biscuit
Hey the Player's Ball was only an average party in New Zealand ;-)
I also hid out on Saturday night... no panic attack but maybe a freak out.
Glad you liked the book Biscuit- still stunned you started reading it. Of course I think I will do D*C next year again... so darn quiet down here I can take it.
Hey Pip!
Yes, I absolutely LOVED the book! I don't know why you'd be suprised, maybe you feared a running commentary? Wish you could visit more often, maybe I'll just have to come down there, I hear NZ is loverly this time of year.
